A major project completed in 2001 is the development of 'Professional Standards of Practice for the Faith Community Nurse'. The purpose of standards is to provide a quality benchmark of best practice nursing care within this nursing specialty for the Australian community.

An AFCNA working party developed uniform standards of competence and scopes of practice specific to the FCN role.

As registered nurses, all Australian FCNs must be familiar with the following Australian Nursing Council Incorporated documents:

  • 'Competencies for the Registered Nurses in Australia';
  • 'Code of Ethics for the Nurses in Australia';
  • 'Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses in Australia'.

The standards are available free from this website to ensure access to this important information for all interested parties. It may also be ordered using this form.
